pulling a focus
Dear Allison--
This is where I will show you my knitting and post you my patterns so that you don't have to get them in chunks via email any more. Really, you are just my excuse to enter the world of blogging and if this it dedicated to you, then I can talk about more than just knitting. I am working on the armwarmer pattern right now, and I need to get pictures from Meg and Steph of theirs, but I will post it as soon as I am done. I am also working on a super awesome stole for my mama. That is all for now, but I promise to make everything pretty soon. I love you much.

bail collection
I am going to jail. But before I commit any crimes, I need committed donors to my bail fund. Just drop it off at my house, or in my mailbox at the planetarium. No amount is too little.
Why am I going to jail? Because I am going to do something bad. I haven't decided what yet, but suggestions are more than welcome. I need a good vengence plan. My landlords lawnboys weed wacked my entire shade bed. Astilbe, nasturtrium, hosta, pineapple sage, lemon balm, and oregano, all gone. I know I know, maybe they thought they were weeds, but a bunch of the plants were flowering, and it was actually in a bed, and they are f-ing lawnboys. Their job is to cut grass, trim around bushes and TAKE CARE OF GARDENS. Not cut them down. I never even asked them to help with my garden. Much less weedwack the entire thing.
I'm really pissed. And I also now have a vendetta to go along with my lack of a shade garden. So please, let me know what you think should be done to these evil evil people who deserve to be punished.
On another note, my tomatoes are bigger than most elementary schoolers.

A bit on how to read this... It's updated as I play, so it actually starts at the bottom. The starred stuff is rotation, which doesn't mean I don't love it, but I may not really know what it is, and the station says I have to play it.

radio radio
I am about to start my newest adventure as a radio dj at chapel hill's wxyc. I know you're a little jealous, as only cool elitist folk get to dj there, but you always knew I was cool and elitist, so it's a logical step for me to take. As I am so cool, they have given me the wonderful time slot of 4-8 am on Sunday mornings. Which is really on convenient for listening if you are a vampire or on the other side of the world. In which case you can still listen because we webcast. at www.wxyc.org
This sunday will be my first real show, although I have already had one practice shift and covered someone else's shift once. This will be my first shift I am actually prepared for. I put up my playlists. That way even if you can't listen, you can still critique/make fun/tell me how great I am. Maybe I'll even send you a mix cd.

Ah Work (and a pattern)
I spent too much time at work today to play outside, save a bit of sitting on the porch when I got home. Luckily, long meetings are wonderful for knitting through, and my new kitchen rug is almost finished. It's going to be nice to have something other than my dirty linoleum to put my feet on while the dishes are being washed. For you knitters out there (especially those of you just getting started) a rug is about the easiest thing you can make aside from potholders and scarves. And as it is not scarf weather, much more useful as well. It's brilliant to work in cheap yarn, and looks best in a straight knit--you don't even have to know how to purl! Here's a pattern...make your own. (As I still have to purchase a digital camera, which I plan on doing this week, I still promise that pictures will follow)
Holding both yarns together, and working as one, cast on 50 stitches.
Work in knit until it's the desired length...I just go until I'm out of yarn. Just make sure you leave enough to bind off and weave in (about 3 times the width of the piece).
Using both yarns gives you a lovely varigated look. You can add fringe on the ends if you want, but I find they just get dusty really quickly. I'll just leave this one plain, but they're super cute if you embellish a corner with a cluster of whatever spare buttons you can find laying around.
I'm making one out of jute twine next to put outside one the porch. I've never knitted with it before, so I'll let you know how it goes.
- 2 skeins worsted weight yarn (about 250 yds each) I'm using Red Heart's Soft Yarn in black and whatever the name of the cream color is. Use something that's machine washable, and not so expensive that you'll cry when it gets dirty.
- Size 10 (US) needles--I'd recommend circular, because this project is a little big and gets heavy as you get into it. Circular needles let you hold it in your lap.

first
I have a problem. I cannot resist buying new plants for my garden. As I live in a small rental home, my garden space is limited. I have dug more beds than my landlord believes is appropriate, yet I can't stop. I went to the farmers market this morning, promising myself I was only there for strawberries and cut flowers. I went to get coffee before hand, and Erik gave me money and asked me to pick up some herbs for him. I got him a thai basil and lime thyme (fun to say out loud) but then found a beautiful lemon verbena. I can't say no to things to put in my sweet tea. And so this morning I dug yet another hole (I did move some dahlias that were already there to do it, so it's slightly more justifiable), and now I have yet another plant I should not have bought. It's lovely though. As I was leaving I stumbled across a yard sale (no plants there), and got two floppy gardening hats per order of Meg, a water hose complete with sprayer, and a copy of Leaves of Grass, all for $2.50. I just watched Down by Law last week, so I couldn't avoid the last purchase. It's not for me though. And I did it all before 9:00 this morning.
Now it is hot, and I am going to work. In my floppy gardening hat. Pictures to follow soon.
By the way, my plants love Exile on Mainstreet.
